2001 Audio Video is a Canadian retailer specialized in home entertainment. They currently operate 12 stores across Ontario.
In 1971 brothers Leo and Frank Annecchini opened 2001 Record & Stereo Centre in Toronto. The store’s values of prioritizing the customer were shown since the early days, when Leo would go out to purchase the records his customers were asking for. Soon they started importing reggae records from New York City and eventually directly from Jamaica, and would later become one of the biggest sellers of Jamaican reggae music in the area.
In 1974 the company bought the store next door to increase the floor space and include additional services, and in 1976 was renamed to 2001 Stereo and Video Centre to reflect these changes. By the end of 1977 the Annecchini brothers owned 6 store fronts on Dovercourt Avenue. In 1979 the store was relocated to a 5000 square-foot location on Bloor Street. In 1983 they opened their second store on Yonge Street and participated with their own booth in the Better Living Centre at the Canadian National Exhibition.
In 1984 Mario Annecchini, the middle brother of the company’s founders, joined by taking a stake in their recently opened Brampton store, and the company underwent another name change to its current name. During the 1990s the company continued expanding, starting the decade with 10 locations and acquiring 5 more from a local competitor. To this day 2001 Audio Video continues to grow while keeping a focus on fulfilling customer needs and keeping their prices low.
