In 1922, two Toronto brothers, John W. and Alfred J. Billes, with a combined savings of $1,800, bought the Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd. at the corner of Gerrard and Hamilton Streets in Toronto. In 1923, Hamilton Tire and Garage Ltd. closed and the Billes brothers moved to the corner of Yonge and Gould in Toronto, under the name Canadian Tire Corporation. In 1963 Canadian Tire’s new Distribution Centre on Sheppard Avenue in Toronto opened and started to grow at a higher speed. In 1972 Canadian Tire celebrated 50 years. Since 2000’s the company has continued growing and adjusting to new tendencies and technologies. In 2022 they will celebrate their 100th anniversary.
