In 1967 Marc Rousseau, Bona Major, Georges Bertrand, François L’Espérance, René Lortie and Clément Létourneau united to open the first Union Six store. That same year the name was changed to BMR.

During the 70s the company adapted to the changing demands of the public changing their focus from purchasing to retail. This proved successful, tripling BMR’s number of dealers while sales continued to climb. In 1982 BMR began development of their own brands of products.

In 1997 the stores were reoriented to become full renovation centres for one-stop shopping, adding more than 16,000 products to their catalogs.
