Lawrence R. (Pete) Guidi was born in Italy and immigrated to Canada. In the late fifties, Pete and a partner moved their families to Vernon, where they opened a meat shop in the downtown. They called it Butcher Boys Meats. The partnership collapsed in 1961, and the downtown shop closed. Lawrence then purchased property at the corner of Pleasant Valley Road and Silver Star Road, the current location of Butcher Boys Food Market. At that time there was a garage and gas bar, a barber shop and a small grocery outlet established. Over the years the garage, gas bar, and barbershop were closed down, and the grocery operation expanded in conjunction with the meat shop.
