When was Running Room created?
In 1984 John Stanton founded the Running Room in Edmonton. He had the idea to open a sports clothes retailer “for runners by runners” after not being able to purchase quality running shoes from someone with experience in the sport. The company initially operated from the repurposed 2.4 by 3 meters living room of an old house.
The Edmonton museum has a 1997 Running Room neon sign on display.
In 2004 the Running Room debuted the Walking Room store concept.
Today the Running Room is North America’s largest chain of specialty running stores, with more than 100 stores across the United States and Canada.
The Running Room’s courses to learn to run have been completed by over 600,00 Canadians. The company also promotes the sport with runs in support of local charities and community engagement.
