In 1955 the first Bad Boy Superstore was opened on Weston Road, Toronto by Mel Lastman, a creative businessman who put the store on the map with publicity stunts like selling two dollar bills for one dollar. The chain expanded quickly, growing from 1 to over 40 locations in Canada. In 1972 Mel Lastman became mayor of the city of North York, and 3 years later decided to sell his company.

Mel’s son Blayne Lastman reopened the stores in 1991, and with a great location and the family’s talent for showmanship the store got it’s previous fame back, opening another location in 992 in Mississauga and a third in 1995 in North York. Expansion continued with the opening of the Whitby store in 1998, Barrie in 1999 and Kitchener, London and Burlington in 2008.

In 2006 Mel was proclaimed the Honorary Chairman of the Board. In 2016 Samantha Lastman joined the company as Director of Business Development, marking the third generation of Lastmans in the Bad Boy Family.
